QuestionI am in Sydney Australia - a temperate zone.
I planted a pierre de ronsard climbing rose last winter(June here). It has grown really well but has not flowered this summer. I have other roses which flower and I haven't treated this one any differently. Another bush rose planted at the same time only a couple of feet away flowered. Can you help?
AnswerPierre seems to be turning out a bit of a disappointment for some gardeners. There are complaints about how stingy he is with flowers, plus only a small re-bloom. It seems that this rose takes at least 3 years to mature and start blooming well, mine took 5 years. Also if a rose is making a lot of growth, there is not enough energy left over to make flowers which take the most energy of all. As Pierre is a climber, he could well make canes for a cople of years and then start blooming well. Hope this helps. Lynnette
