QuestionI'm writing a somewhat fanciful radio play in which my main character, actually a demon from hell, has grown bored with tormenting humans and has become obsessed with the much more difficult task of growing roses. I have three questions of an expert rose grower:
1. Is it possible to compete and win at rose shows without personally attending?
2. Could my character successfully grow champion roses if he lives near Death Valley in California, assuming he has a cooled greenhouse, vast quantities of amended soil, and plenty of water?
3. If #2 is possible, what sorts of daily activities might my demon be doing to keep his current roses happy and breeding new ones?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer1. You can compete at rose shows and not attend, but you have to put your name on the entry card at the base of the exibit vase.
2. Most people grow the roses outside and then protect the flower they want to show. But you could grow roses in a greenhouse.
3. The science of growing roses in a greenhouse is a very involved and complex system of temperature and chemicals. Here is a site that telling you about a man who is growing roses in a green house and the problems he incounters. I can't give you a short anser on growing greenhouse roses as each step is a long process. But this page will give you enough information for your play. At least you will have the correct words. Hope this helps. Lynnette
