Hi Gill,

I live in massachusetts where the summers are not real hot however this past one was dry and very warm,I p;anted five foot dark american arborvitae four feet apart in the spring of 2009 and for the most part are doing well, they have grown to be seven to eight feet in hight they prodused buds but some of the trees buds turned brown and will fall off whrn touched can you tell me what you think has happend.

This could be due to an infestation of a moth larva, but this is not my particular area of expertise, so to be sure I'm going to suggest that you go back to the AllExperts gardening menu and click on the link to 'Pests'.

I'm sure you will be able to find an Expert there who can answer your question.
