QuestionI have 5 oleander plants that are about 5 feet tall and very
healthy. I would like to know if I could bring them in to
my sunroom(which does not freeze it has a heat vent from the
furnace that keep it at about 40 degrees at night and
probably 60 in the daytime. I live in London Ontario Canada
and have always put them in the garage for the winter and
they survive but I thought they might like the sunroom any
thoughts
AnswerHey Beete,
I work for The Home Depot in California and I think I can help you.
Nerium (Oleander)is usually quite happy in most environments with the exception of frost/snow. Are these in large pots or barrels? If so make sure the holes on the bottom are not plugged by root. This is to keep the drainage flowing.
Your idea of putting them in the Sun room is excellent. You can enjoy them and keep them frost free. Everyone wins!
This is also the time when you can prune them to whatever shape you like. Don't forget to get rid of dead and mis-shaped branches.
The only areas of concern for these upcoming winter months are fertilization and toxicity.
Fertilizing is a good idea, but NOT during winter.
As for toxicity, be aware that Oleander in large amounts is toxic to people and animals. So be aware if you have children around or animals that like to chew plants.
Let me know how well they did, I'd like to see a photo or two if possible.
