Cotoneaster Cornubia

Question
I am looking to plant this tree/shrub approx. one meter from the closest wall (to be used to screen the wall) and one meter from sewerage manhole (and above the sewerage drain piping). As such I was wandering whether the roots are invasive and may either disturb the wall or drain pipes.

Answer
Hello Mark

I don't think that the roots will affect the wall - in fact Cotoneaster can safely be planted against a wall.  As to problems with sewer pipes - that will depend on how far down the pipes are.  If they are less than 2 feet down there could be a problem eventually.

Could you not plant to one side of the piping?

Gill
