juniper bush

Question
Is is safe to have a juniper growing about eighteen inches from the wall of a brick built house or is there a possibility of the roots interfering with the foundations of the building?
The building in question is in Birmingham, West Midlands, UK

Answer
Hello Margaret

I wouldn't recommend planting a Juniper close to a structure.  The roots of this plant have extensive lateral growth and also go down very deeply, so it would certainly interfere with the foundations of the house.

This is a plant which needs plenty of space!
