QuestionHello,
I'd like to find out how to care for the Alberta Dwarf Spruce. I just bought it potted for Christmas, and I would like to keep it potted to use for a number of years as a Christmas tree. Can you advise me on how to keep it alive? I live in Toronto, Canada.
Thank you in advance,
Elena
AnswerHello Elena
The problem with dwarf spruce is that it can grow to 20 feet high, instead of the more usual 80 feet or more - you see 'dwarf' is a very relative term!!
You may be able to keep it in a large container for a year or two, but eventually it is going to get too big to pot on and it will begin to deteriorate!
If you are determined to keep it, the kindest thing you can do really is find it a spot to plant it in your yard (should you have one) and enjoy its natural growth.
If you don't have a yard, or if it is too small for a 20 foot (eventual height) spruce, could you donate to a community garden or park?
