QuestionThere are a lot of small dogwood trees coming up under my main tree. Are these good Can I replant them and when should I do this?
AnswerHello Betty
You don't say how big the new dogwoods are, but they can certainly be transplanted.
If they are over 12" tall you could transplant them into other parts of your yard now. Gently dig them up with as much soil around the roots as you can and replant straight away. Make sure that you water them in well and put a mulch around them to help to keep moisture in.
If the plants are still quite small, I'd advice planting into pots and putting them in a sheltered position somewhere outside for the winter. Next spring put the pots in a lightly shaded place and allow them to grow on until they are big enough to plant out into the soil.
