QuestionI have a larger, well established, evergreen pine 6 - 8 feet tall by 6 feet wide. I was wondering if it would hurt the plant if I trimmed all the bottom branches to make space and light for ground cover plants underneath. The bottom part of the evergreen keeps expanding out further and further each year, and it is starting get too wide for the space.
Thank you in advance
AnswerHello Stu
Thank you for your question.
Yes it is perfectly possible to cut out the bottom branches of your pine. Take off about 1/2 to 2/3 of each branch first to reduce the weight and then saw off the remainder of the branch as close as possible to the trunk and trim of any raggy bits that left with a clean, sharp gardeners knife.
