Hedging disease?

Question
I have a Laurel hedge that I cut in July its leaves are now curling and going brown can you help?

Answer
Hello Graham

Thank you for your question.

I think the problem here is that you pruned at the wrong time of the year.  Laurels should be pruned in the spring - they can be cut hard back then with no ill effect to the plant, in fact, they'll thrive on it! In July they are at the height of their growing season and cutting them will cause the plants to 'bleed' sap thus depriving them of their food source.

Leave them alone for the rest of the year - they may start to put out new growth next spring.  Give then a good general feed and keep your fingers crossed, though I think they should be OK.
