QuestionWe have an Oleander bush that is doing quite well, growing, expanding, but it has NO blooms. Has had 2 small blooms all summer, that's it. It had aphids about 6 weeks ago, and we sprayed it and put Systemic Insecticide Granules in the ground around it, and watered like crazy. The aphids are gone, but we have had NO blooms all summer. Thing is, we had no blooms even before we noticed the aphids. We've put Super Bloom fertilizer on it twice... The plant is green and has ALWAYS looked great, even with the aphids, but again... no blooms !! It's weird ! HELP !
AnswerDear Debbie
Thank you for your question
I think the most likely explanation is that the aphids did a lot of damage before you noticed them. They do attack to most vulnerable new buds. I think you have done just the right things so far - so keep up the watering and feeding and keep a sharp eye out for more aphids (unlikely to be any considering how you've zapped them so far!). You may not get any flowers this year, but by building up the plant you will be giving it better chance to flower next year.
