replanting

Question
Last month I planted a Raspberry crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia Indica), which just started to bloom & is doing wonderful, unfortunately, I planted it on septic tank lines & now I will need to relocate it.  Is this possible without harming it & if so,when is the best time to do so?

Answer
Hi Susan

Thank you for your question.

You can certainly relocate your Lagerstroemia Indica, but as it is deciduous it would be best to wait until fall when the plant is in its dormant state.

If waiting is not an option you can move it now as it seems to be quite a young plant and wont have made too much root yet.

You must be sure to prepare its new home beforehand and when you do dig up the plant take as much rootball of you can.  Replant it immediately, firming it in well and watering it copiously. You could use a half strength liquid feed in the first watering just to give it some encouragement! Keep a very close eye on it for a few weeks to make sure that it doesn't dry out.
