QuestionI purchased three sweet brooms which were blooming beautifully at the time I purchased them in their pots. It has been two years since I've planted them and none have bloomed since. They are spectacular when in bloom and I am very disappointed as they are quite expensive. They turn green but just do not flower. Do you have any suggestions.
AnswerDear Brenda
Your brooms should have settled into their new garden home by now!
These plants like a well drained, sunny spot, but are not too fussy about soil type.
Perhaps the problem is that they need a good feed with a general fertilizer and a good mulch of well rotten garden compost (the mulch will keep down weeds, and will be taken down into the soil by worms to feed the plants - thus cutting down on the labor of digging it in yourself!!)
Do this now and regularly throughout the growing season and hopefully next year you'll have your beautiful plants back!
