QuestionWe just put in a new planting bed, 3 weeks ago. It includes several Emerald Spreader Japanese Yew's and 1 Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce. The foliage is turning brown/yellow and dying on parts of the plants, especially the Yews . We don't know why? We have a drip system on the plants. We have not fertilized yet. Temperature lately is mid 90's they are in full sun about 6 hours of the day
Please help, we don't want to lose our shrubs. Thank you.
AnswerRobyn,
Check that the water is draining properly and that you are not over watering. The pattern of damage suggests that the problem is root rot or poor drainage restricting the plant's oxygen transfer through the roots.
I would also recommend that you check the yews for scale and the spruce for mites. Insects will attack weakened plants faster than healthy ones.
Put down some granular organic fertilizer this will help to strenghten the new plants.
Good luck,
