QuestionGood afternoon. I have a small blueberry bush and my neighbor has two arborvitae (about 4' tall) in outdoor containers. We live in the Catskill Mts. of New York (zones 4-5) and were wondering if these plants will overwinter in the containers, or should they be transplanted into the ground/brought inside come this autumn? Thank you.
AnswerBonnie,
If you are going to keep them in the pots, then I would recommend bringing them inside for the winter. Planting them in the ground would be preferable- they both will survive the winter if planted in sheltered spots. I would recommend putting burlap enclosures around them before the winter sets in for added protection and to fertilize them this fall.
Good luck,
