QuestionMy plant is 9 years old. It flowered the 1st 2 years and nothing since. It has hardy green leaves, but no flowers, i pruned it down to 3 inch from ground. is planted on north side of house
AnswerMargaret,
When do you prune it down? If you pruning at anytime other than mid to late summer, then there is a good probability that you are removing the flower buds- remember most Hydrangeas flower on old wood. Shade is also a big factor in flower production. If the shade is too heavy, the plants will not set up their flowers properly. If possible, move it into a more sunny area.
I would recommend fertilizing them this fall with a low nitrogen fertilizer and protecting them from harsh winter weather.
Good luck,
