QuestionGood Morning, I recently purchased and planted 17 x 6' Emerald Cedars. The roots were loose on most when we planted them and planted them approximately 6 weeks ago. We are watering them every 2nd - 3rd day when it is not raining (other than this week, it has been raining very steadily so they appeared to be well watered).
I am noticing that some branches are turning brown and dying (most of the browning is on the bottom 1/2 of the trees). The trees still "feel" strong and alive and some appear to have new growth even though they are browning.
When I planted them I fertilized the holes as I put the shrubs in - is there something more I should be doing as I do not want to loose the trees.
Thanks,
Kevin
AnswerKevin,
I think you are doing all that you can do. It sounds like the plants are going through transplant shock. Continue to water and apply mulch to the root zone. This will help protect the roots and will also hold moisture in the soil.
I would not recommend fertilizing them again until the fall.
Good luck,
