QuestionMy flowering crab apple tree's leaves are all turning yellow/rust colored. The tree was only planted a few months ago and is about 15 gallons in size. Help!
AnswerDiana,
It sounds like the tree was attacked by Cedar-Apple rust. This disease is difficult to control in the spring and impossible to control at this time of year. Next year you will need to start spraying the tree with fungicide as soon as the leaves begin to emerge, and continue spraying every 7 to 10 days throughout the spring.
Fertilize the tree this fall to help strengthen it, keep it well watered and make sure to remove all of the effected leaves from the ground daily. These fallen leaves contain the inocculant for the disease to reoccur next year.
Good luck,
