QuestionI bought a gardenia tree this spring, it has a lot of blooms, but they turn brown and never bloom. Also some of the inner leaves have turned yellow. I checked for bugs but the tree seems clean. It is in a large pot with three holes on the bottom. What does it need?
AnswerPenelope,
It sounds like the plant was effected with bud blight. This fungus effects the buds, and sometimes the leaves. you will need to spray it with a fungicide now to minimize the damage. Next spring, you need to start spraying the fungicide when the buds start to expand.
Good luck,
