QuestionI have two potted Nandina in my back garden. we have had them for a number of years and were starting to loose their bushy-ness! My husband was advised to cut them back to help restore them. He proceeded to cut everything off leaving a few stumps at the bottom and no green at all! They have stayed the same for 3 -4 weeks now. Has he done any permanent damage or will they revive themselves? Show I do anything to help them? Thank you.
AnswerSarah,
I hope it was not me that recommended doing a rejuvenation pruning on your nandina. The recommendations from Clemson University is to remove 1/3 of the oldest canes in the spring. You can find more information at http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/hgic1071.htm
Good luck,
