QuestionWe live in NC, and just as our large Japanese Maple was leafing out, we has a freeze (21 degrees) and all the new leaves withered up. There is new growth now, but the tree does not look good. Other than keeping it watered this summer, what should we do to help this tree in the next year?
AnswerHeidi,
You need to fertilize the tree this spring and again in the fall. This will help strengthen the tree and ease the shock that it went through. I would recommend using fertilizer spikes- they will feed the tree gradually over the season.
Good luck,
