QuestionQUESTION: the expert e-mailed about my arborvitaes, telling me to use fishline. can you tell me about this product, since i cannot find it on line, and where to buy it?
ANSWER: Robert,
I have never heard of Fishline fertilizer, but I think that the expert was t telling you to use fish emulsion fertilizer for the Arbs. I try to stay away from many of the fish products because of the odor that sometimes comes with them. Organic poultry fertilizers, sewer sludge or any other organic would also be acceptable for use.

QUESTION: where can i buy the fish emulsion fertilizer. i live on long island. thanks you
ANSWER: Robert,
One of the best places to order it is on line from North Country Organics. The website is www.norganics.com. They carry all types of organic fertilizers and soil amendments.
Depending on where on Long Island you live, I would try Father Natures in East Islip, Dodds and Eder in Oyster Bay, or Whitmores in the Hamptons.

QUESTION: i have a japanese dwarf red maple tree. it is not entirely blooming, what can i do . this is the first year i have had troubnle with it. thanks bob
AnswerBob,
Japanese maples are a tricky tree to keep going. You will need to prune off the dead spots and check the tree for Verticillium wilt. Verticillium wilt is a vascular disease that is prevalent on maples. When you cut the limbs off, look at the cut ends of the branch. If you see black spots inside the limb, then you have Vert wilt. Fertilize the tree heavily to force it to outgrow the disease and keep it well watered.
