QuestionI would like to trim my purple plum shrub. It is getting very leggy and some of
the branches do not have any sprouts on them. I live in the Chicago, IL. area. It
is about 4-5 feet tall now and spread out. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
AnswerSheila,
I would recommend first taking out the dead branches, then waiting until after it has finished flowering to reduce it's size. Do not worry too much about pruning too much off, these plants are very tough and it will recover nicely.
Good luck,
