QuestionHow can i kill invasive shrub roots without damaging the soil? I would like to remove three shrubs and plant tomatoe plants there but am afraid if i use a root killer, it will damage soil...any suggestions?
AnswerHelen,
The easiest way to kill off the shrubs would be to use Round-Up. You can either spray the foliage and wait or cut the plants down and spray the stumps with the Round-Up. You would get faster results with spraying the foliage since the material will be translocated into the roots faster. Round-Up, however, you use it becomes chemically inert once it hits the soil, so it will be no problem to the tomatoes.
Good luck,
