QuestionI am trying to find the steps required to shaping bushes in to a round head or various heads depending on the size of the bush and a clear bottom where the main trunk or trunks can be seen and nothing is hanging off them. This could look like a bonsai tree for lack of a better example.
Thank You for your time,
Johnny
AnswerJohnny,
The art of topiary pruning is not very easy, and will take a lot of practice. The following web page- http://www.gardengrapevine.com/PrecisionPruning.html will help get you started. I would recommend picking up the book The illustrated practical encyclopedia of pruning, training & topiary : how to prune and train trees, shrubs, hedges, topiary, tree and soft fruit, climbers and roses
by Richard Bird. This will also help to guide you through the process.
Good luck,
