QuestionI too have a couple Blue Spruce that are dying from the top down. The trees are 25 to 30 ft. tall & aprox. 35 to 40 years old. They are right next to each other. I have another one that is aprox. 50 ft. away. Is this tree in danger??? What type of insecticide should be used if a borer is the problem?
AnswerJoe,
Normally when a tree dies from the top down, it is due to a root problem, but spruces can also be affected by cytosphora canker, which will cause somewhat of the same damage.
I would recommend calling a certified arborist in your area to examine the trees closely. They will be better able to tell you exactly what the problem is.
Good luck.
