evergreens

Question
i live in tennessee, southwestern part of the state,i have some fernspray false cypress, there turning brown on some of the lower branches, their planted close to the house and have been in the ground about six months, their approx.2-3ft.tall.also have two cryptomeria trees approx.6'tall and they are starting to turn a light brown. i haven't been watering any of them as much since it turned cold maybe once every two weeks

Answer
Randy,

It is common on evergreens to show some browning, especially on the insides of the plant, once the colder weather settles in. This is a normal function of the plant.

When Cryptomeria go dormant, they will turn a light brown color as you have described.

I wpuld recommend putting down some fertilizer, mulching the plants and discontinue the watering until the spring.

Good luck.
