QuestionSomeone gave me a hydrangea plant. When can I plant this in the ground? I live just outside New York City.
AnswerNancy,
You can plant it at any time until the ground freezes. I would recommend planting it in a sheltered area away from the majority of wind during the winter. Put up a burlap enclosure around it to protect it further from winter drying. Mulch the root area under the plant to protect the young root system. If you follow these steps, the plant should be fine.
Good luck.
