QuestionI planted 3 4ft-aborvite shrubs in July and watered thouroughly everyday and noticed the inside of the shrubs, it is turning brown and dying...the outside is lush and green....I have noticed a lot of cob-webs and am wondering it the spiders are killing them?
AnswerAudrey,
The Arborvitae are fine, this is a normal thing that occurs with all evergreens. As the plants grow, the inner leaves are producing less and less food for the plant, so these leaves are allowed to die off to favor the outer, newer growth.
The spiders are actually helping to keep any harmful insects in check, so leave them alone and let them feed.
Good luck.
