QuestionI have two dwarf alberto spruce trees. I have had them about 8 years. This year they started to go brown inside but they still have new growth on the outside. I am not sure if they are dying or do they have something wrong that I can treat? I would appreciate any advice you can send me. Thank You
AnswerTammy,
It is normal for evergreens to drop their inner needles every few years. However, if it is excessive this year, then ther are other things occurring.
I would check to see that the area they are planted in is draining properly and not holding too much water. This will cause root die back which will manifest itself as needle browning and drop.
Fertilize them well this fall and again in the spring to help strengthen them. The stronger and healthier they are, the less chance there is for mites to attack.
Good luck.
