QuestionI planted a snowball bush this spring and it did very well. However now it has tiny black spots ont the leaves and seems to be shrivling up and falling off. There is new growth coming from the roots so it isn't dead yet. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Thanks Lynda
AnswerLynda,
The name Snowball bush can be used to identify two separate plants, Hydrangeas and Viburnum opulus.
These plants will get a leafspot disease and they would be treated the same. Treat the plant in the spring with a fungicide as the leaves are beginning to open to prevent the leafspot from gaining a foot hold on the leaves. Give the plant a good shot of granular fertilizer this fall and again in the spring to help strengthen it. Keep it well watered until the fall arrives and it should be fine.
Good luck.
