QuestionThere are three upright yews on the west side of the house. One started dying immediately. Two are starting to turn brown and I have no idea how to help them? Other evergreens are showing brown branches and I don't see any bugs. One is browning from the bottom up and the others are browning in a random pattern. What spray or dust would you suggest? Should I fertilize? It has been very hot and humid in Nebraska - could wind and heat be a factor?
AnswerDianna,
You say that one started dieing immediately. Immediately after what? Were they tranplanted? Just Planted? Or have they been there for awhile?
If they wer just planted or transplanted, then there is a good possiblity that they are in trensplant shock. The best thing to do in this case is to keep then well watered and apply a granular, low nitrogen fertilizer to stimulate root growth.
If on the other hand they were established (have been in the area more than 5 years), then I would say that there is some problems with the roots. Root problems are hard to diagnose without seeing the conditions and the plants involved. If there is anything else you can tell me, I could narrow it down further.
I hope this helped.
Good luck.
