QuestionThis is the second year in a row that all of my crabapple trees have started losing their leaves right after blooming, all trees are just about bare. Will spraying the trees with fungicide now improve next year's leafing, or is it too late? Help ! !
AnswerBarb,
The Crabapple has Apple scab. This disease must be treated for with a fungicide in the early spring as the leaves are emergeing.
Fertilize the tree this fall to help strenghten it for next year, and have it pruned out in the spring to increase air flow through the crown.
Good luck.
