QuestionWe live in Dillard Ga., and my pink Hydrandeas seem to be turning to blue blooms. How can I keep them pink?
AnswerMary,
The flower color of Hydrangeas is related to the soil ph and to the amount of available aluminum ions in the soil. According to Dr. Micheal Dirr, a soil ph of between 5 and 5.5 is required for blue flowers while a ph of 6 to 6.5 is needed for best pink coloration.
I would recommend having your soil tested at the local cooperative extension to determine what you need to add to the soil to maintain the optimal color.
Good luck.
