QuestionCan lilacs be rooted by branch cuttings?
I don't want to dig up my lilacs as I might damage the huge locust tree beside them, but I would like to share my lilacs with some friends.
AnswerCarole,
The preferred way to propagate lilacs is by dividing suckers, but it is possible to use branch cuttings and rooting hormone. This method is not easy, you need to collect softwood cuttings before the leaves mature in the early spring.
Good luck.
