QuestionHi there,
I planted a new shrub (about 3 feet tall) in mid-May. I couldn't
tell you the exact name of the shrub, but it is cone-shaped
(upside down) with very soft needles.
Here's what's happening: up until about a week or two ago, it
looked beautiful. Then, from the bottom up (and from the inside
out) it started to turn brown. Also, the needles that are still
green have lightened a little and are droopy.
I has been raining a lot over the past couple weeks. I don't know
if this has something to do with it. Do you think I can save this
plant, or is it probable that I will lose it?
Thanks for your help,
Jen
AnswerJen,
It sounds like some kind of pine tree and it is going into transplant shock or that the area that it is planted in is flooding- which is causing root death from lack of oxygen in the soil.
Apply a granular fertilizer to the root zone of the plant and check to see if there is flooding in the area that it is planted in.
I would say that you have a 60/40 chance of losing this plant from what you have described.
Good luck.
