we have shrubs all around the yard.  We went to get rid of these shrubs.  they are very big - tall and large.  what is the best way to get rid of those shrubs?

There are several ways to get rid of the shrubs that you have planted in the yard.
You can dig them all out.
You can pull them out of the ground with a truck or tractor.
Or you can simply cut them down to the ground and have their stumps ground out by a professional arborist.
The first option can be back breaking and take time.
The second can do damage to whatever vehicle you are using and can damage the lawn, plus you may not be able to get the vehicle to all the shrubs.
The third option is the easiest but will cost you some money for the stump grinding.
