QuestionCurrently I have around 48 arborvite shrubs planted around the perimeter of my yard. This spring after all of the other 47 shrubs began to bud early this spring, I have one that seems to be still sleeping. Although it is not yellowed or brown, its just that it is not as bright as the others; nor does it show any hint of budding.
What could have caused this and how can I save it. Currently this shrub is about 7 feet tall and it is about 3 or 4 years in its final resting place.
Again; how can I save the shrub?
AnswerJay,
I would say that the Arborvitae is declined from transplant shock. Transplant shock can show up in a plant up to 5 years after it is planted. It is also possible that this one plant was weaker than the rest. Remember plants are individuals just like people.
You could try sparking this plant by fertilizing it now with a low nitrogen fertilizer, but I feel that it might be too late.
Good luck.
