QuestionMy daughter put in a rhody last year and now the pink petals are disappearing as soon as the buds open just leaving the green. The petals are not just dropping off, they are not on the ground. Just disappearing. You can see the color as they open, but by the time they open, they are gone. What is going on and how do we treat it?
Thanks in advance.
AnswerBetsy,
It is possible that what you are seeing is the new young leaves emerging from their buds.
I could find no mention of any type of symptom of a disease or insect that would otherwise explain the loss of petals.
I would recommend that you contact a local Certified Arborist and have them inspect the plant first hand.
I am sorry I could not have been more helpful.
Good luck.
