QuestionI bought an Oleander shrub last year not realizing that it was a tropical plant. It did great until about a month and a half ago. I cut off the dead part and put fertilizer on it, but I cannot get it to grow back. It has stopped dying, but will not put out leaves or flowers. How can I get it to start growing again. I love flowers and trees. Please help me. P.S. I live in White, Georgia.
AnswerEllen,
The dead portion will not grow back, but with time and some extra care, the plant will survive. What will happen is that the sections that are still alive will send out new growth into the damaged areas and fill them in. This will take time.
Fertilize it again in the fall and protect it with burlap and an application of an antidessicant this winter.
Good luck.
