Grants Old Gray Beard

Question
My father had two plants that he called Grants Old Gray Beard. I can't find any information on the plant. One is approx. 6 foot tall and in the summer has plumes of smokie white flowers that hang down like an old mans beard. The other is about 4 foot tall. He told me I could have the smaller plant. I would like to know when would be the best time to transplant and what type of area is best. Both plants were both planted at the same time and seem to be in about the same type of location. We live in Carrollton Georgia approx. 50 miles south west of Atlanta.
Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

Answer
Jean,
The name Grants Old Gray Beard sounds like a cultivar name. It would take some time to try to track it down. The quickest way to identify this plant would be to e-mail digital photos of the overall plant and a close up of the leaves (if they are still on the plant). You can send these pictures to [email protected]. As soon as I get them, I should be able to identify the plants rapidly and be able to advise you on the correct transplanting times and other pertinent information regarding the plants.
