QuestionEdward we have recently planted Bouganvillea shrubs. While they were blooming when we put them in they have no flowers now; but the leave growth is hearty. I have been advised to "Stress" the plants by limiting the amount of water they receive. I have done that and still have no blossoms. Is pruning also considered as a form of "Stressing"? Any help you can give to get more bloom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
AnswerDaniel,
It sounds like the Bougainvillea did go into stress from the transplanting. Pruning will not force the plant to flower- what you need to do is to give the plants a good dose of fertilizer that is high in potash (K) and water it regularly. It normally takes between 4-6 weeks for the new buds to set on the new growth and to open.
