Tree Roots Removal

Question
Hi  I recently had a very large Tababua tree cut down at the base, very close to the ground. The diameter of base is about 24-30 inches. My question is is it necessary to have the tree stump ground? If we don't what will happen?

Answer
Beryl,
Having the stump ground out is not necessary in all cases. If you want to plant another tree there, then I would say yes have it ground out, but if you do not plan to do anything with the spot, then you can leave it to rot away naturally.
If the tree was alive when you cut it down, you may get some sucker growth growing out of the stump. These can be clipped back easily. Eventually the tree will stop suckering altogether.
Rotting stumps can attract insects such as termites and carpenter ants, along with several types of wood borers. If there are signs of these insects, then the stump should be removed immediately.
