QuestionI've received conflicting information on eleagnus. One syas that it can be used as a foundation planting and that it grows relatively slow. The other says thatit should never be used as a foundation planting and that it it like a photenia. Which is correct. Do you have any ideas what would look good with Indian Hawthrone?
Thanks,
Judy
AnswerTherer are several varieties of eleagnus, but most are VERY aggressive and fast growers. I think I would look for another shrub which requires less pruning. It's difficult to recommend a shrub, as I don't know what USDA Zone you live in or the shade/sun conditions of the area you want to plant in. Since you have Indian Hawthorne, I assume you are in full sun. And probably zone 6b or higher. You might try looking at the different types of Japanese Hollies, some are very nice with red berries and slow growing.
Thanks, Doug Roberson.
