QuestionI live in Westchester NY, have several rose of S that are very tall and healthy(except for one), but not full and shrubby/bushy. they reach about 8-10'. i would like to cut them back heavily to get them to grow fuller, not taller. can i just cut off all the growth now that blooming is over? can i cut it down to 4'? or just below the window outside?
thanks for your input and time.
AnswerHi sharyn
Rose of sharons can be pruned as you like for shape, the proper method of pruning is the one in three method meaning you remove the oldest wood in favor of the new to keep the shrub vigorous. it can be cut to the ground but it would take longer to regrow and bloom for you. If i were you i would cut off the tops and leave the horizonal
ones to grow and boost the growth with a slow release organic fertilizer. Good Luck Larry ;-)
