Question
Hi:
I have a north facing house with a screen porch across one side, about 16' across and am looking for some nice foundation shrubs that won't come up too high on the screening. I wanted azaleas but told they need sun and this spot is shaded by the house.  We are in zone 7.  Otto Luyken and abelia have been suggested but the former is not very impressive and the latter is too small.  I'm looking for something about 4'.  Any ideas?

I would forget about azaleas too quickly.  Azaleas are good shade plants.  True the flowering may not be as brilliant, but they will flower, especially in Zone 7.  If you want azaleas, plant azaleas.  Do your homework and see what is available from your local nursery.  I
