QuestionAll of my forsythia shrubs barely bloomed this year as I believe we were too aggressive last year when we pruned them. As a result.. they look pretty sad and ill shaped. Can you provide any advice on how we can cut them back but get some blooms next year?
Thanks,
Answernever prune them in the fall, they set there buds in the mid to late fall, for the next springs flowering. you want to prune them in the spring right after they have bloomed. now may be a good time still to prune them. Just shape them and give them some fertilizer. blooming on most plants depends a lot on weather, either this years, and in most cases the past years weather; this may have contributed to the blooming of them this year. Fertilizer should help you out this year. go for miricle-Gro, that seems to be one of the best on the market.
Good Luck.
