QuestionHi! Hope you can help me out. I recieved a hydrangea plant as a gift last year. When it was given to me it had mounds of bright pink sterile flowers. Now it is flowering once again, however, it is flowering like a "lace cap"---a mound of fertile pink flowers surrounded by a ring of bright pink sterile flowers. How did that happen? Any ideas? Thanks!
AnswerJulie, I am not sure. I am not that technical when it comes to the flowers, and weather they are sterile or not. I know what you are talking about, and know that some will naturally have both on one plant. I dont think it is a big deal, other that for the look of the plant, I dont think it will hurt the plant at all. I am more of a designer, and not a botanist, so I dont get to much into the botany of the plants. you may want to check with your local extension agency to see if they can help.
Good luck, sorry I cannot be of more help.
