last fall we had some trees planted. They came with felt wraped around the trunk. when should we take it off. was it there for protection or bugs or what?

what kind of trees, sometimes its there to protect the trees in shipping, other times from rodents in the winter. not for buggs. if its tight, remove it, it can and will hinder the growth of the tree. contact the grower you got them from, and see what they suggest. I have not seen felt wrapped around trees in this area before, only a loose fitting plastic tube. I would say you should remove the flet from the tree.
