QuestionHi Mark,
I have a tea olive tree/shrub right outside my front door. My daughter and I both are allergic to the fragrance that it gives off. I'm trying to find out if and when can this plant be transfered and how. Also needing to know if they need to be trimmed down like you would trim a hedge. I live in Middle Ga. I hope that you can help.
Thanks,
Kamala Davis
AnswerKamala. I am not at all familiar with a tea olive shrub. I live in Minnesota, and they do not grow in this part of the country. I would however ask, why you would want to transplant this shrub, to another part of your yard, if you are allergic to it. I would say you may be better off just cutting it down, and getting something new and different. You also asked on trimming it down, how large is it? if it is a large plant, and has been in the ground for more than say 4 years, it probably cannot be moved very easily, depending on the root structure, moving a large plant often times requires a tree mover, or about 4 people, probably not worth it. If it is smaller, and not been in very long, you may be abel to move it, but I would check and see if there is a garden center in your area (not one at a home depot or walmart, but a store that is a garden center only), they may have a horticulturist on staff, that may know more on that plant, and if or when it can be moved.
Good Luck, and happy gardening.
Mark
